Hey there, readers! Well today was the day...

As you know I’ve been going through an exciting and transformative experience. Today, I had: my ADHD assessment.

After years of struggling with focus, organization, and impulsivity, I finally took the brave step of seeking professional help. And guess what? The outcome confirmed what my gut had been telling me all along—I have Adult ADHD!

My journey began with a psychiatrist who listened to my concerns and acknowledged the challenges I faced. Together, we embarked on a thorough exploration of my symptoms, diving deep into my experiences, and untangling the complexities of my mind. The psychiatrist asked thought-provoking questions, helping me uncover hidden aspects of my ADHD that I hadn't fully recognized before.

To ensure accuracy and a comprehensive understanding, the psychiatrist requested me to fill out a few more forms. This additional information would assist in providing an official ADHD type diagnosis. Although it might seem tedious to some, I welcomed this process wholeheartedly, recognizing the importance of a well-informed diagnosis. I don’t want to hop on any “bandwagons” and I wanted to be certain that I was well on my way to finding myself and understanding her better.

During our discussions, the psychiatrist shared an intriguing statistic: between 60 to 80% of individuals diagnosed with ADHD are also found to have some form of Autism. Having a child diagnosed more than 20 years ago with AuADHD this revelation sparked my curiosity. After careful consideration and trusting my intuition, I felt that further assessment in that particular space wasn't necessary for me at this moment. However, it's important to note that everyone's journey is unique, and if you feel the need for further exploration, don't hesitate to consult with a professional.

The next chapter of my journey unfolded as I started on medication. I approached this new phase while I was home a lone and with cautious optimism. Considering my previous challenges with prescription medications' side effects and to ensure a smoother transition, I decided to start at half the prescribed dosage. This approach would allow my body to acclimate gradually, reducing the likelihood of any overwhelming side effects.

Now, as I embrace this new path, I want to emphasize the uplifting and positive aspect of my story. A diagnosis of Adult ADHD is not a label that defines me but rather an opportunity for self-understanding and personal growth. It's a key that unlocks doors to tailored strategies, tools, and resources that can enhance my daily life and help me thrive.

I am filled with hope and enthusiasm as I embark on this journey armed with newfound knowledge about myself. ADHD brings its fair share of challenges, but it also gifts me with unique strengths—creativity, resilience, and a boundless curiosity for the world around me.

To all of you who may be navigating a similar path, remember that seeking help is a courageous act of self-care. Embrace the journey, trust your instincts, and know that you are not alone. Together, we can conquer any obstacles and live our lives to the fullest.

So here's to new beginnings, self-acceptance, and a future filled with endless possibilities. Let's embark on this ADHD adventure together, one step at a time!

I’ll keep you posted.

With warmth and optimism,

P.S. I also got myself a therapist. Things are looking good!
